When it comes to modern muscle car news it’s been one-way traffic for the Chevrolet Camaro this week. First the Camaro ZL1 set a smoking hot time of 7:41.27 at the Nurburgring closely followed by Chevrolet announcing that the 2012 Camaro ZL1 convertible will be launching next month (read news). Now to finish the week in style, specialist American tuner Hennessey has revealed its latest special edition – 20th Anniversary Edition Camaro.

It’s not the Camaro’s 20th anniversary, but it is Hennessey’s 20th birthday so the tuner is going big with this celebratory Camaro. Officially named the HPE650 Camaro, this muscle car packs 655 horsepower achieved by fitting a TVS2300 supercharger. There’s also a new cam, replacement headers and intake and exhaust upgrades.

Chrysler’s SRT8 models may receive supercharger option for 2012

July 28th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

A new horsepower war is brewing in the States between GM and Ford with their retro-inspired pony cars. Chrysler, in a bid to keep up with the big boys is now planning to step things up a notch with a new top tier of SRT vehicles featuring upgraded powerplants. If recent rumours come to fruition later this year, the Dodge Charger SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 will be made available with an Eaton-sourced supercharger. This blower will boost the output of these machines to somewhere around 540-570-horsepower.

The supercharger option may be a dealer install job and will be offered on 2013 model year cars. What’s more, Chrysler may fit its new eight-speed auto transmission to its four-door sports cars from next year. Continue reading “Chrysler’s SRT8 models may receive supercharger option for 2012” »

Eaton to provide poke for new Audi engine

July 21st, 2008 by Darren Cottingham

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation has announced that its Twin Vortices Seriesâ„¢ (TVSâ„¢) supercharger has been chosen by Audi to power the automaker’s all-new 3.0 litre TFSI V6 engine.

The supercharged 3.0 litre TFSI V6 is a member of Audi’s family of ultramodern V engines and will go into production later this year. Audi has a tradition of developing supercharged engines dating back to grand prix racing cars in the 1930s.

The Eaton TVS is an all-new Roots-type positive displacement supercharger that features twin four-lobe rotors that are twisted 160-degrees. The intermeshing, high-speed rotor design pumps air directly into the engines intake system that when mixed with fuel creates more power. By comparison, the original Eaton supercharger features three lobes twisted 60 degrees. The fourth lobe and added twist, when combined with redesigned air inlet and outlet ports, creates a smooth, highly efficient flow of air into the engine and has improved noise and vibration characteristics.

Many car manufacturers inclucing Mercedes-Benz, GM and Audi, are looking toward smaller, more efficient engines coupled with forced induction (turbocharged or supercharged) to reduce fuel consumption while still providing ‘large engine’ power.
