Lexus produces LFA supercar ‘making-of’ video

October 31st, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

It’s not everyday that a mainstream automaker decides to try its hand at building a world-class supercar. But when one has the motoring world has been given some of its most interesting machines like the Honda NSX, the Ford GT, the Dodge Viper, and more recently the Lexus LFA.

Any supercar takes years of development with fine-tuning and extensive testing. Toyota learned its lessons with the Lexus LFA and spent year’s and millions preparing the supercar for its debut. Now, to show the world just how tough making a supercar really is, the Japanese automaker has released a ‘making-of’ video. Continue reading “Lexus produces LFA supercar ‘making-of’ video” »

Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition breaks production car record at the ‘Ring

September 6th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

The Internet is buzzing with unconfirmed reports that the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition has smashed the existing production car record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Apparently Gazoo Racing driver and Lexus test driver Akira Iidra has put the track-focused LFA through the Green Hell in a new time of 7:14. If this reports are true, the LFA is one of the fastest production vehicles to ever lap the 20.8 km long course.

The previous record holder for a production car lapping the ‘Ring is the Porsche 911 GT2 RS which took 7:18 for the same distance. At just 7 minutes and 14 seconds the LFA Nürburgring Edition would become one of the top five quickest vehicles to ever run the track.

Using the word Nürburgring in the special edition LFA wasn’t just to sell more units, this is a harcore supercar. The Nürburgring Edition has extra kit like a full carbon fibre body kit, a retuned suspension, an upgraded six-speed sequential transmission. Its 4.8-litre V10 engine pumps out 419 kW. The package costs an additional $70,000 USD but drops the 0-100 km/h sprint time to 3.7 seconds and extends the top speed to 325 km/h. Lexus to produce striking LFA Roadster

August 5th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

The Lexus LFA coupe has established itself as one of the most coveted super cars in the world and with a production run of just 500 models this beast from the east is certainly exclusive. But when production of the LFA coupe finishes in 2013 an even rarer variant looks like it will built – the LFA Roadster.

According to recent reports in mid-2014 the LFA roadster is scheduled to debut with a price tag only the mega rich can afford. This is the first new news on the roadster since it was teased in a stunning concept version (pictured) back in 2008. Strangely, there is expected to be a one year gap between the end of LFA coupe production and the beginning of LFA roadster production.

The roadster will headline a whole gang of new or updated models Lexus plans to unleash in the coming years to help it fight key players like BMW and Mercedes-Benz in global markets. Continue reading “Lexus to produce striking LFA Roadster” »

Rumours of go-harder Lexus LFA II supercar development

June 2nd, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

It’s been a tough few years for Toyota, there was the massive recalls and subsequent court battles and more recently the earthquake disaster in Japan. But despite these problems, Toyota is still pushing forward with development of its supercar the Lexus LFA.

According to reports, an upgraded or updated LFA II is already in development and will most likely appear as a variant of the existing model. The go-harder LFA II will push the supercar’s performance abilities even further, possibly using some of the tweaks from the LFA’s Nürburgring package (pictured). May 18th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

A new video has been doing the rounds online and shows some of the World’s finest sports machines battling it out on the racetrack. A simple idea sure, but when it’s done with stock production models and a level playing field it makes for compelling viewing.

There’ s also a Ferrari 430 F1 thrown into the mix for good measure. The battle takes place on the Fuji Speedway and is fought over three laps. Toyota shows off high-tech 3D carbon fibre loom (+video)

January 20th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

Do you love carbon fibre? Who doesn’t, it’s five times stronger than steel and four times lighter – what a miracle of technology. It turns out that Toyota is pretty keen on carbon fibre too and to prove it to the world it has released a video showing for the first time their space-age carbon fibre loom.

Usually we’d leave this sort of thing to those who like watching Mega Structures on TV and doing maths for fun but this is some seriously amazing stuff. The clip gives a glimpse of the machine Toyota uses to weave its more tricky carbon fibre components like the various body parts of the new Lexus LFA supercar. The parts produce are more crucial than just the boot spoiler and even include the A-pillars.

Toyota was able to build those components thanks to the high-tech loom’s ability to weave the carbon fibre in three dimensions and create true 3D objects. The Japanese carmaker plans to use this carbon fibre loom to build various other components that will help bring down the weight of its high end models, which in turn will increase efficiency and decrease fuel consumption.

Apparently, Toyota didn’t really want to show this clip, because of fears it would reveal some of its secrets. So don’t go building a 3D carbon fibre weaving loom in your back yard.

Check out the clip below of the loom creating parts for the Lexus LFA supercar and see exactly why the LFA costs half a million dollars. Continue reading “Toyota shows off high-tech 3D carbon fibre loom (+video)” »

Lexus shows off factory tuned metal at Tokyo Auto Salon

January 19th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus has been winning new fans at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Salon with a number of factory custom models. It’s good news for Toyota fans because both Toyota and Lexus are looking to gather more attention from tuners and the aftermarket industry for its latest models.

The custom Lexus vehicles shown in Toyko include the Lexus CT200h F Sport, Gazoo Racing’s Lexus LFA, the Lexus IS F Club Circuit Sports Racer and an IS F Club Performance Accessory range.

The most interesting and distinctive model was undoubtedly the Lexus IS F Club Circuit Sports Racer, or CCS-R, which is essentially a stripped out version of the regular performance sedan, with a number of its body panels being replaced by lighter carbon fibre pieces, and new front and rear spoilers fitted, as well as a frameless construction roll cage and polycarbonate windows. In the cabin more weight has been shaved off with a carbon fibre dashboard, centre console and door trims.

Mechanical modifications on the IS F CCS-R include a racing suspension set-up, upgraded brakes, cooling system and exhaust. There’s also a new LSD and forged alloys wrapped in slicks.

The IS F CCS-R is one mean track demon, no doubt. Check out images of all the Lexus vehicles on display in the gallery below. Continue reading “Lexus shows off factory tuned metal at Tokyo Auto Salon” »
