Hennessey unleashes 20th Anniversary HPE650 Camaro

When it comes to modern muscle car news it’s been one-way traffic for the Chevrolet Camaro this week. First the Camaro ZL1 set a smoking hot time of 7:41.27 at the Nurburgring closely followed by Chevrolet announcing that the 2012 Camaro ZL1 convertible will be launching next month (read news). Now to finish the week in style, specialist American tuner Hennessey has revealed its latest special edition – 20th Anniversary Edition Camaro.

It’s not the Camaro’s 20th anniversary, but it is Hennessey’s 20th birthday so the tuner is going big with this celebratory Camaro. Officially named the HPE650 Camaro, this muscle car packs 655 horsepower achieved by fitting a TVS2300 supercharger. There’s also a new cam, replacement headers and intake and exhaust upgrades.

The upgraded engine can be matched with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and the hot Camaro will sprint to 100 km/h in around 3.8 seconds and cover the quarter mile in 11.7 seconds. Continue reading “Hennessey unleashes 20th Anniversary HPE650 Camaro” »

Hennessey Performance builds 1,000 hp CTS-V Coupe

American tuning firm Hennessey Performance has built a reputation behind building some of the most terrifying muscle machinery available and has just unveiled its latest package for the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe.

Named the V1000, this hardcore version of the CTS-V separates itself from lesser models with a full aerodynamic carbon fibre body kit, massive bonnet vents, a low front splitter, a new rear diffuser and deep side skirts. Mechanical upgrades include lowered sport suspension and Brembo 15-inch carbon ceramic brakes. Step inside and there’s a fully reworked interior with premium leather upholstery and an Alcantara headliner.

It certainly looks the part, but its under the bonnet where the the big changes are found to generate a full 1,000 horsepower. Power comes from a twin-turbo 427 LS V8 which has been upgraded with high-flow cylinder heads, forged pistons, rods and crank, a new crankshaft, upgraded fuel injectors, an intercooler and a revised ECU. This extensive tweaking has resulted in an engine that now pumps out 1,000 hp (746 kW) with 1,286 Nm of torque. Those figures are scary enough but this machine will sprint from standing to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds, run the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds and go on to reach a top speed of 370 km/h. American tuners Hennessey Performance Engineering has just unveiled the HPE700, which blends a standard 2010 Camaro SS with the supercharged LS9 V8 from the Corvette ZR1. The stock performance from the monster Corvette motor was not enough so HPE has tuned the LS9 to produce 705 hp and 717 lb-ft torque. That should make for an awesome performer over the quarter-mile, or simply a competent tyre shredding machine.

Other performance goodies include 15-inch carbon ceramic brakes lifted from the ZR1, upgraded suspension bits and HRE alloy rims wrapped in Michelin PS2 rubber. Cosmetic changes have also been made and the HPE700 has inherited the infamous see-through bonnet from the ZR1, along with a body package that includes a full carbon fibre kit and a unique front end with hideaway headlights and a billet aluminum grille.

The HPE700 is a lot of car to handle, and to help drivers keep it pointing straight, a 1-day performance driving course is included in the asking price of $109,500 US dollars.
