Ferrari finally recalls 458 Italia over fire risk

September 2nd, 2010 by Darren Cottingham

The internet has been ablaze recently with images and videos of new Ferarri 458s on fire. In a rather slow response Ferrari has officially issued a recall of the 458 Italia.

According to the automaker, an adhesive used to attach a heat shield under the rear guard can ignite with high temperatures which can start a larger fire in the nearby engine bay. There’s been five reported cases in total, a number verified by Ferrari directly to Car and SUV.

To combat the problem Ferrari has designed a new heat shield that attaches with rivets, negating the need for the adhesive. Ferrari 458 owners are urged to call a dealer to schedule an appointment for the free fix.

There are eight 458s in Australia, but New Zealand has yet to have one delivered.

The Ferrari 430 Scuderia is already one of the hottest-performing supercars on the market, but some people just can’t go fast enough. While Ferrari has been working tirelessly on the new 458 Italia to replace the 430’s already legendary performance. Aftermarket tuners Novitec Rosso, have come back again with a final mod job for the Italian stallion.

Named the Edizione 747, the custom Scuderia packs some serious performance figures. By strapping a pair of superchargers to the high-revving 4.3-liter V8, along with a few more tweaks Novitec has brought output up from 510 horses to an insane 747 horsepower. Intercoolers and revised aerodynamic cooling keep the engine chilled out. Twenty-inch NF3 rims are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber mounted to sport springs that lower the ride height by another 30 mm. Luckily the car is available with an adjustable front end that can lift 40 mm to clear curbs and speed bumps at the touch of a button. Novitec’s used an exclusive two-tone yellow and matte black paint scheme, and given the interior a few touches to complete the package.

Novitec claims the 747 is capable of a 350 kph top speed, and can hit 100 kph in just 3.4 secondsĀ  a touch quicker than stock. Novitec will only be making three examples, which will be enough to keep a few cashed up speed freaks busy until the new 458 Italia comes around, then it will all start again.
