Chrysler: 2016 300 SRT sedan review

January 26th, 2016 by Robert Barry

There is a wonderful expression amongst petrol-heads: “there ain’t no substitute for cubic inches,” and it is one colloquial phrase which is wholly appropriate to the latest 300 SRT sedan.

For the 2015/2016 model year the local Fiat Chrysler Automobiles distributor has rationalised the current 300 sedan range to two models, the 3.6-litre V6 300 S and the 6.4-litre Hemi V8 300 SRT. Continue reading “Chrysler: 2016 300 SRT sedan review” »

Chrysler’s SRT8 models may receive supercharger option for 2012

July 28th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

A new horsepower war is brewing in the States between GM and Ford with their retro-inspired pony cars. Chrysler, in a bid to keep up with the big boys is now planning to step things up a notch with a new top tier of SRT vehicles featuring upgraded powerplants. If recent rumours come to fruition later this year, the Dodge Charger SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 will be made available with an Eaton-sourced supercharger. This blower will boost the output of these machines to somewhere around 540-570-horsepower.

The supercharger option may be a dealer install job and will be offered on 2013 model year cars. What’s more, Chrysler may fit its new eight-speed auto transmission to its four-door sports cars from next year. Continue reading “Chrysler’s SRT8 models may receive supercharger option for 2012” »

Porsche celebrates 300,000 sales of Boxster/Cayman

June 27th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

After getting a drive in the Porsche Cayman S, Car and SUV became a big fan of the model and the platform-sharing Boxster. It’s no surprise that we aren’t alone with news that Porsche has ticked up 300,000 sales of the Cayman and Boxster models.

It’s taken 15 years to reach this milestone since the very first Boxster roadster left the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant in Germany. Most of the vehicles have been in convertible Boxster form with the hard top Cayman not contributing until the 2006 model year.

To celebrate Porsche dressed up the 300,000th vehicle real pretty. It’s a Boxster Spyder with a Platinum Silver paint job and Carrera red leather trim. This hot ride is most likely set to be sold to a lucky local owner in Germany.

We’re big fans of Porsche’s Boxster and Cayman, and it appears we’re not alone. Porsche is celebrating 300,000 Cayman and Boxster models sold, almost exactly 15 years after the first roadster left the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant in Germany. The lion’s share of those sports cars have been convertibles – the hard-hatted Cayman didn’t join the party until 2005 as a 2006 model. Chrysler confirms new vehicles for 2010

Chrysler has ended speculation about what new products it will be rolling out in 2010, CEO Bob Nardelli confirmed there will be redesigned full-size vehicles. These will come in the form of a new Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 as well as a new Jeep. While these vehicles will not be exceptionally fuel efficient, Nardelli did stress that fuel-saving models are on their way due to Chrysler’s recent partnership with Nissan. The new vehicle Chrysler is predicted to put into production is the Dodge Hornet concept that has been around for the last couple of years.

The redesigned Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger will be highly important launches. Styling is expected to be very different since Ralph Gilles has taken over as head of design. We will have to wait and see.
