News: New and used cars get EyeSight

It’s not just brand new Subaru cars that have been fitted with the company’s Eyesight driver assist system.

Included in the one million vehicles that have the system, which launched in Japan in May 2008, are NZ-new used and import used vehicles.

The Volkswagen Group’s SEAT brand is finally set to officially launch in the New Zealand market, with an Auckland dealership opening early next year.

European Motor Distributors is adding the brand to its schedule, and former Skoda NZ general manager James Yates, will be behind the project.

The University of Canterbury Motorsport team won the student-run Australasian Formula SAE competition in Melbourne with an electric race car, in a first for the competition.

Hyundai New Zealand says it’s Ioniq EV hatch will be in local dealerships for sale in March 2017.

national sales manager Scott Billman confirmed this afternoon that the New Zealand distributor will launch the Ioniq EV and Ioniq Hybrid to media and dealers in early February 2017 in Queenstown.

A blind Texas man is the first non-Google employee to travel unaccompanied in one of the tech giant’s driverless cars.

Steve Mahan told the Washington Post that being taken around the streets of Austin in the car without a steering wheel or floor pedals was a pleasant experience.

News: Uber launches self-driving pilot in San Francisco

Ride-sharing company Uber will extend its self-driving pilot to San Francisco, California.

It will use a specially-converted self-driving Volvo XC90 SUV for the project.
