In light of the government’s support for electrification of the light commercial fleet, LDV New Zealand is seeking expressions of interest from both the private and public sector for it’s EV models.
Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but LDV New Zealand says it is aiming for the price point to be somewhere between $60,000 to $70,000, nearly double the price of a diesel V80 but significantly undercutting the smaller electric Renault Kangoo ZE delivery van. Australian publication Caravan World is bestowing its 2016 Tow Car of the Year award upon the Ram 2500.
The magazine and website are putting the American vehicle ahead of all the traditional tow cars as the best choice to tow a caravan.
The Ram 2500 tested by Caravan World is imported directly from Ram’s North American factory by the Ateco Group and remanufactured in Australia by Walkinshaw Automotive (American Special Vehicles) to meet Australian Full Volume Compliance rules. BMW New Zealand has made a ‘substantial donation’ towards the roll out of electric vehicle fast-charging infrastructure.
The company announced today a partnership with charging-operator Charge Net NZ, which will see the company donate a significant but undisclosed sum for the installation of DC fast chargers.

Road Safety Education Limited (RSE) has released a study that shows that the gap between driver licensing and road safety education contributes to the young dying on New Zealand roads.
Young drivers are involved in 27% of fatal crashes and crash frequency increases by a factor of thirty in the brief time that a learner driver is awarded their license and moves to unsupervised driving.

Kia Motors has unveiled a lightweight eight-speed automatic transmission that will improve the performance and economy of future front wheel drive models.
Designated the FWD 8AT, the new transmission has been developed inhouse by Kia’s engineers and will make its debut in 2017 production vehicles. Thereafter it will be introduced progressively to other FWD models.

Men at 49% are more likely than women at 35% to invest time into pre-purchase research.

Hyundai’s H350 fuel cell concept LCV, which comes with a range of 422km and emits only water ,has been unveiled.
The fuel cell powered van was unveiled at the IAA commercial vehicle show in Hanover.
Unlike a conventional electric vehicle (EV), which requires a number of hours to recharge, the 175-litre hydrogen tank can be filled in under four minutes – similar to the time it takes to refill a tank of gasoline or diesel in a vehicle with a traditional internal combustion engine.
