The New Zealand Motoring Writer’s Guild has elected DIESELtalk editor and Auto Media Group chief reporter Robert Barry as its president for the next twelve months.

Barry takes over at the wheel from immediate past president Liz Dobson who has led the guild for the last two years.

“We live in an automotive world of constant change, so it’s more important than ever to have a professional group of independent journalists such as the New Zealand Motoring Writer’s Guild,” says Barry.

“The aim of the Guild to foster professional standards amongst members, to comment on industry issues as appropriate, and to educate the public in their new vehicle purchasing decision,” says Barry.

The Guild has more than 30 motoring journalists working for newspapers, magazines, internet websites, radio and television.

Each year its members select the New Zealand Car of the Year award, held in conjunction with the New Zealand Automobile Association, which is currently held by the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

It held its yearly annual general meeting in Auckland on February 13.

NZME Regional motoring editor Colin Smith has been elected as Guild Vice-President while Auto Media Group managing editor Richard Edwards (AutoTalk, WheelTalk, Trade Me Motors) remains as secretary for a third consecutive term.

The incoming Guild executive comprises Blenheim-based Bill Green (Road-Tests.Com), Manawatu-based Richard Bosselman (Motoring Network, Otago Daily Times) and Auckland-based freelance writer Sam Domett. NZME Driven editor Liz Dobson also remains on the executive committee as immediate past president.

More details on the Guild are available here.
